The latest edition of Vampire is definitely not just a mixture of familiar ideas but dares to break away from its predecessors in terms of background, rules and even presentation. At many points, you notice a return to the basic values of the first edition, which simplifies the complex background a lot. On the one hand, the player characters are put into focus much more, because they can achieve more. On the other hand, the Second Inquisition makes sure that the player characters or even the vampires, in general, cannot simply rule the world with their abilities. Hunters quickly become the hunted. If you love a vampire with complex metaplots, overpowering super-vampires, dozens of clans and bloodlines, and complex conspiracies, you'll experience some limitations with V5 and you are probably better off with V20, which bundles all these aspects.
But if you are looking for a new start and want to play vampires with a fresh perspective and also a new role of the player characters, you will find a robust new rule system here. Even if some changes surprised me personally at first - and I also had to get used to the new presentation with photos and the new layout - in my opinion, the rebirth of Vampire is very well done, leading to an excellent new edition which is not just another copy of former editions. The fact that the basic rules do not contain all the background knowledge is not a novel approach for Vampire but was also the case in previous incarnations. I have played Vampire the Masquerade for around 30 years, since 1st edition. I might leave for a time but I usually come back to it. This latest edition is excellent. It incorporates new mechanics to empasize one of the more compelling aspects of Vampire, Hunger. It is less handwaved than earlier editions and that pleases me. The production quality is excellent and the updates to the story are great. Good Work!! Good Quality in compression well organized and a great game to play, I would have ordered a paperback but there is no shipping to canada which is disappointing. The contents of the book are amazing and the photos and pictures are nice to look at as well. I just haven't found an audio version of it which would be amazing , but I love the fact that the PDF comes with the physical version.
That is a great attention to the needs of a group of friends that want to play and the team is highly deserving of congratulations. The artwork and layout of this book is stellar. Lore first, rules last, as it should be. I cannot wait to get my hard copy! Up to date, without the errors of the old Modiphius print run, but at the time of writing there are no bookmarks, you have to manually find the right pages. Really disappointed that the last update has no bookmarks at all. Hoping to see an updated file with bookmarks soon. The Camarilla merely represents another layer of power at the very top. We too live in secrecy, hidden from the general population in our havens and Elysiums. Indeed, often the land of wealth is our land, the privileges society grants to its richest members protecting us too. The Camarilla can be many things. Different cities organize in their own ways, their Kindred shaping their existence according to necessity and desire.
Yet, so often wealth and influence are the two constants. We disappear into the human elite, so it is not only the world of the Camarilla you must adjust to. It is also the world of cocktail parties, gala openings, and fundraisers. Pretty much the only avenue blocked to us is going golfing during daytime. And anyway, golf bores me. The Camarilla protects you from many things, but do not be naive about the environment you are about to enter. Despite its profession of peace, the Elysium can be lethal, and frankly we like it like that. Playing the political game is what makes life worth living, and it is only fitting that the price of failure is death. After you have learned everything in these papers, destroy them. It is a good habit to learn. Every docu- ment can betray you in the wrong hands.
My servants have been instructed to provide you with access to my havens, including the ones in the city, the mansion, as well as my island cabin. I suggest you sell them. You will also gain access to my ac- counts, offshore holding companies, and financial advisors. The advisors need a steady supply of vitae.
